Our leather comes from two family tanneries, one in France and one in Italy. We have worked with both since the 1960s.
Vegetable tanning takes up to forty days, using bark extracts instead of harsh chemicals. It is slow, expensive and the only way to obtain leather that ages beautifully.
Choosing each hide
Twice a year we visit to select hides by hand. Only the central part of each hide, the strongest and most even, is used for our bags.
Good leather is grown, not made.

Offcuts become card cases, key rings and the small leather tabs that close every Monceau dust bag.
